In the ghazal, this failure is symbolised by the beloved’s “ruthless neglect,” an image of leadership indifferent to the yearning for genuine guidance. Yet the poem insists that “a spiritual scene beyond all sight” will ultimately break through; knowledge and conscience cannot be permanently suppressed.
