क्या कहुँ हाल-ए-दिल

फुर्सद नहिं सोचकर अब दिलकी बात निकले,
क्या कहुँ हाल-ए-दिल युँ हर दिन रात निकले!
              ये सबेरा जो निकलाहै अंधेरेकी गिरफ्तसे देख,
              गुजरते दिन चलबसा चाँदशामके वाद निकले!
हम समझतेहैं जो तुम हो तुम हमको समझना,
कैसि नासंझीहै समझ गयातो तब हाथ निकले!
              हाथोंसे समझनेकी बात दिमागसे कहीं अलग,
              मगजसे सम्झेथें जोकुछसबवो बरबाद निकले!
हम खडेपैरोंसे होतेहै मगर वो रहजातेंहैं जमी,
होना शरपेभीखडाएकबातहै क्याबात निकले!
              आजके चाय हाथ पैरोंके सुबहशाम रातोंदिन,
              कर तेरेनामकोपीतेहै जानेजां हमसाथ निकले!

I can’t help thinking, and the heart spaketh! My heart, poor thing, keeps crooning night and day’s breaketh. I see the dawn break out loose of the all-dark night. Passed away the day slowly slipped.

The growing brighter moon appeared after the dusk went faint. I understand that you are, and you do understand me. What a misunderstanding it is! Oh, I missed it was out of hand and then I understand.
